great mosque of Qurtaba(cordoba)

The Mosque of Cordoba was built during the 9th and 10th centuries and consecrated as the cathedral in 1236. A Jewel of Hispano-Islamic art, the Mezquita, with its 850 columns, double arches and Byzantine mosaics, is a legacy of the Ummayid Caliphate in Spain. In the center of its vista of columns rises a 16th-century cathedral.

The Great Aljama Mosque of Cordoba, begun in 786 by Abd al-Rahman I, is the highest expression of Islamic art in Spain and the most important historic mosque of the West. Its last touches were made by Almanzor in 988, and it was the place of worship for the rulers of the western Islamic empire Al-Andalus.
Important Islamic features include the Minaret, now enclosed and reformed into a Baroque bell tower, the Orange Tree Courtyard, the Mihrab and the forest of columns and arches.

Italy quake death toll climbs to at least 70

A powerful earthquake in mountainous central Italy knocked down whole blocks of buildings as residents slept, killing at least 70 people and trapping many more, officials said Monday. Thousands were homeless.
The earthquake's epicenter was about 70 miles northeast of Rome near the medieval city of L'Aquila. It struck at 3:32 a.m. local time in a quake-prone region that has had at least nine smaller jolts since the beginning of April. The U.S. Geological Survey said Monday's quake was magnitude 6.3, but Italy's National Institute of Geophysics put it at 5.8.
Civil Protection chief Guido Bertolaso said 70 had been killed, but Italy's La Repubblica newspaper said that rescue workers were reporting 92 deaths.
Officials said the death toll was likely to rise as rescue crews clawed through the debris of fallen homes.
L'Aquila Mayor Massimo Cialente said some 100,000 people had left their homes and that many buildings in the city's historic center were damaged. Slabs of walls, twisted steel supports, furniture and wire fences were strewn about the streets and a gray dust carpeted sidewalks, cars and residents.

46 DIED IN CONTAINER

Pakistani and Afghan officials were on Sunday preparing to send home the bodies of 46 Afghans found crammed into a truck container bound for Iran. The container, carrying around 110 people, was found about 20km south of Quetta, capital of oil- and gas-rich Baluchistan province, which borders Afghanistan and Iran."The death toll is 46," police official Ghulam Dastagir said from the south-western province after the bodies were found on Saturday."Another 45 people were unconscious and have been admitted to hospital," he added. The investigation into the matter had been handed over to Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), which deals with immigration matters.

killing of innocent children and womens

At least 31 people were killed Monday in a remote area of Pakistan close to the border with Afghanistan in what appeared to be a missile strike from an American drone, according to a government official and a resident in the Kurram tribal region. The attack was one of many reported from remote border areas of Pakistan since last August as U.S. forces seek to strike suspected militants who cross into Afghanistan to attack NATO soldiers there. But the attack was the first in the semi-autonomous Kurram tribal region, news reports said. A government official, who declined to be identified by name because he was not authorized to talk to reporters, said the dead in the air strike, near the border town of Parachinar, were all though to be Taliban militants, some of them from outside the Kurram area.
